It's Been A While...

I'll admit it, I've been slacking hardcore on this blog! Between school and work it is next to impossible, but with the semester being over now it is a lot easier! Many new oppertnities have opend up in my world so far this spring! We have had the pleasure of displaying our jewelry at 2 different events thus far. One was at a Earth Day festival in Patchogue, I was super nervous as it was my first time vending my jewelry ever! We did suprisingly well, a lot of inquiries and custom handstamped orders were placed, but all in all it was nice to just get the company name out there! Here's a picture of the table set up at the BrickHouse.

Our second event was something we were told, about by the guy who set it up, when we were at the brickhouse. It is a series of dates the first one was on May 22nd. It was awesome to be a part of it despite the crazy weather here on Long Island. The day was a chilly and cloudy. I partnered up with a friend of mine from work who wanted to show her photography for the first time. There were some straglers who showed up to the park and wandered around and few sales were made. There are dates for this event in June, August, and September. So hopefully the weather is good and there are more people out and about. Here are shots of our table on Sunday!

It's Been A While...

I have not blogged in forever. It seems this never ending pile of school work just keeps growing! Thank goodness the semester is almost over. Jewelry has taken somewhat of a backseat as well. Although I do have a space booked to vend at an Earth Day Festival in Patchogue! Should be fun. Keep posted for some fresh spring giveaways and featured blog articles! -Jess

Featured Artist - Rachel RaeoLight on Etsy

Here it is! The first feature! I am siked to have picked Rachel from RaeoLight photography! Her work is beautiful and I think my favorite part of her photography is that she shoots with a 35mm! Enjoy! :)

Name
-My name is Rachel Edgington and I'm from Joplin, MO

What's your art/craft and how did you get started?
-I am a photographer and I got started taking pictures about 4 or so years ago.

Your etsy link

Is it just a hobby or is it a main source of income?
-Right now it's just a hobby. If I had a little bit more capital I would love to make it my secondary income. I've discovered that selling prints is a very competitive world and sometimes it's good just to settle for just doing it for fun.

How is your work unique/what makes you different?
-Well a few years ago this wouldn't have mattered but with the upswing of technology today one of the unique qualities of my work is that almost all of my pieces are taken with a 35mm camera. I do some digital prints, but the depth of field isn't as crisp as with my Canon. I also live in a small Midwest town so many of the places I shot haven't really been captured before. And with the history of mining and all the other Main Street qualities I have found some very awesome shots.

What is your favorite product/medium to work with/in?
-I love working with my camera. I have a couple other products I've added to make my work available to those not really looking for wall decor but for the most part I find taking an afternoon to capture the landscape around me very relaxing.

Your favorite/least favorite part of what you do.
-Well probably getting them developed. I hate waiting to see my creations come to life. I love picking them up and gazing at my shots for the first time but waiting the hour always kills me.

Busy Busy

I cannot believe how busy I have been since both work and school have started! All I want to be doing is making new jewelry pieces and promoting the shop, but I've had so many assignments for class.

I do have a few custom pieces that I will be working on this weekend for a close friend and someone I work with...I'll be posting some before and after pictures of that stuff :)

I am also looking for people to run a feature on for the blog. If you have an etsy shop and create art work, clothing, or jewelry it might be something you'd be interested in! Here are some questions that you can answer and e-mail back (thebeachc0mber@live.com) to me and I'll run a post for you in the blog!

-Your first name and where you're from
-What your art/craft is and how you got started
-Your etsy(or another) link
-Is it just a hobby for you or is it a main source of income?
-How your work is unique/what makes you different?
-What is your favorite product/medium to work with/in?
-Your favorite/least favorite part of what you do
-Include some pictures or your work!

You can also type out a little blurb about you if you don't feel like following this format :)

Welcome!

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out my blog. On here I will basically blog about new jewelry pieces that I have created and even have the occasional giveaway to a subscriber of the blog! I also plan to do the occasional post with some of the items that I have found on websites, such as Etsy, that I love and think would be perfect for the season, holiday, or even just because! I look forward to keeping this updated!

A little bit about The Beach Comber Jewelry- We make many jewelry pieces that include sea glass. We have recently started to create pieces that would be geared towards bridal parties, wedding jewelry, or other special occasions; such as proms, elegant nights out. Our favorite materials are sea glass, pearls, swarovski crystals, and various charms.

Thanks again to everyone for reading,
xo Jess
